The first trip to the facilities is tough 3 to 5 days, depending on the number of implants and the type of provisional. These are not days "available to the clinic": each day has a precise program that you know before booking the flight. Here's how it's organized, without romanticizing it.
Day 1 — Arrival, CT scan and visit
You land in Tirana (about 1 hour flight from Italy) and the private transfer takes you to a partner 4★ hotel. In the clinic: Cone Beam CT included, visit with Dr. Ledjo Kapaj, confirmation of the signed treatment plan. It's time for the final questions: the plan doesn't change, but we want you to enter the operating room without doubts.
Day 2 — Surgery
The day of the surgery. Local anesthesia (conscious sedation available in indicated cases), insertion of implants Straumann® or Nobel Biocare® according to the planning made on the CT scan. A single system requires approximately 30–40 minutes of room time; a complete arch a few hours. In the afternoon you return to the hotel to rest: the post-operative instructions will be given to you in writing, in Italian.
Days 3–4 — The provisional and checks
Check the wound and take an impression for the provisional, created by our internal laboratory. In cases of immediate loading, the fixed temporary is applied these days: you go home with your teeth. For single lifts the program often ends here and we fly on the fourth day. For complete arches, 1–2 more days of aesthetic and functional tests are usually needed.
Day 5 — Last check and return
Last clinical check-up, delivery of complete documentation (report in Italian, certificates of authenticity of the implants, written guarantee) and transfer to the airport. From here the remote follow-up: photographic checks at 7 days, 1 month, 3 and 6 months. The return for definitive prostheses is after 3–6 months: the complete scheme in how many trips are needed.
How to prepare so as not to miss a single day
- Send recent x-ray before departure: signed quote and plan arrive within 24 hours;
- Bring the list of drugs you take and report pathologies (diabetes, bisphosphonate therapies): some cases require preliminary tests to be done in Italy;
- Don't plan your return flight before the last check-up: the clinic will confirm the date after the surgery;
- If you can, travel with a companion: it's not mandatory, but the day of the surgery is more peaceful.
